BA fined £90m for role in air cargo cartel

 

British Airways faced damages claims runiing into tens of millions of pounts after being fined €104m (£90m) by the European Commission for participating in an air freight cartel.

The UK flag-carrier was one of 11 airlines fined a total of €799m for rigging fuel and security surcharges over six years, spanning December 1999 to February 2006,

The EC decision leaves the carriers exposed to class-action damages claims from customers representing €6bn of cargo traffic.

After a three-year investigation, the EC found the carries started fixing fuel surcharges and then "extending their co-operationg by introducing a security surcharge"...
